Abstract

The Gas Turbines Group of ITA aims to gather the knowledge needed to retain the technology of gas turbine projects. Currently the research is focused on the numerical simulation of the turbine and its primary components. The computational resources needed are usually quite high. The main goal of this project is to allow the parallel processing of the programs developed by the group and therefore increase the overall computational capability. The group owns a cluster. The programs develop by the group can be considered as a set of programs with common parts and implemented by a variety of researchers that does not follow a properly established model to date. The lack of a single pattern makes the reutilization and optimization of the codes more difficult. This project proposes the use of a single programming model based on the so-called object-oriented programming paradigm to increase productivity and facilitate collaboration among authors. The main result expected is the efficient utilization of the hardware available and hence to allow the solution of high Reynolds number flows. Additionally, it is expected that the employment of a programming model will facilitate the development of both parallel and serial programs.
