Abstract

This work aims to compare four methods for nitrate determination in soil amended with urban solid waste compost, optimizing methods recommended for this determination on other matrices. Three them was recommended for European Parliament to nitrate determination on fertilizers and use the reduction of nitrate to ammonium with metallic alloys (methods of Ulsch, Arnd and Devarda) followed by ammonium determination by Kjeldhal method. The fourth method, recommended by CETESB to nitrate determination in natural water and wastewater, is based on spectrofotometric determination of the coloured compound formed between nitrate and fenoldisulfonic acid.
