Abstract

Tropical Seasonal Montane Forests (FTES)are found in areas of tropical regions characterized by marked seasonal precipitation. Approximately 54% of the remaining FTES are located in South America. These forests have an elevated richness of species, many of which are endemic; the Leguminosae family stands out as one of the most diverse. Despite elevated species richness and high endemism, the flora, biogeography and ecology of these forests have been neglected and little attention has been given to their conservation. Thus, this project aims to develop a clear understanding of the diversity of the family Leguminosae in the principal fragments of South American FTES and to understand the floristic relationships between these separated plant populations, as well as to discern the geographic distribution patterns of the taxa and phylogenetic structure of Leguminosae populations. The objective is to discern potential linkages between South American FTES based on analysis of current geographic species distribution patterns and on modeling through the Maxent algorithm.
