Abstract

In this work will be evaluated the possibility of utilization of construction demolition waste CDW to produce modular bricks. All the inorganic mineral residue will be crushed, sieved (<5 mm) and mixed with water and then with commercial lime (binder agent). The proportions of lime and water will range from 20 to 35% and from 10 to 15%, in weight, respectively. The homogenized mass will be pressed (7 tonf) by using a hydraulic uniaxial press in two different types of probes: cylindrical ( = 30 mm x 60 mm) for compression tests and prismatic (60 x 30 x ~7 mm) for flexural tests. The probes will be prepared in triplicates and, after seven, twenty one and twenty eight days of cure they will be tested (compression and flexural), identification of formed phases (x-ray diffraction), water absorption, apparent weight and porosity. The results will indicate the best composition of the mixed material to prepare the modular bricks. These bricks will be pressed using a hand press to produce soil-cement bricks and will be submitted (after 28 days cure) to tests of mechanical resistance (individual bricks and brick wall) at UNESP/FEIS, Ilha Solteira – SP. Preliminary results shown that compression tests can results in probes with values higher than 5 MPa and flexural strength higher than 2 MPa.
