Abstract

The objective of this project is to study the mechanical and tribological behavior of thin ceramic films deposited onto the surface of metallic substrates. The elasto-plastic behavior of thin ceramic film/metallic substrate assemblies will be modeled using finite element analysis (Abaqus 6.5 and CosmosM 2.8). The influence of contact forces applied to the coating by hard indenters will be analyzed. The results will be compared to experimental ones obtained in laboratory, after hardness testing of coated tool and stainless steels.
