Abstract

Lignocellulosic residues are easily obtained and cheap materials, which make them interesting starting materials for the production of sorption systems for heavy metals. From an environmental perspective this strategy has two benefits: reuse of a residue (with aggregated value) and the production of a product apt to be used in the remediation of water. In this project, coconut (Cocos nucifera) fibers functionalized with the agents tiophosphoryl chloride Cl3P=S, dimethyltiophosphate (CH3O)2ClP=S and diethyltiophosphate (CH3CH2O)2ClP=S, as well as their products with the Cr3+, Cr6+, Cd2+, Hg2+ and Pb2+ ions will be studied by spectroscopic and thermal methods.
