Abstract

This project goals to carry forward the studies of scientific initiation performed by the student Bianca Trama in the last year. The preliminary results indicate sorption of lead (Pb) by Saccharomyces cerevisae when it is biologically inactivated. Some of these results are exhibited along the text. In order to expand and enhance the study, this project purposes the use of yeast residues from the sucro-alcohol industry for sorption of Pb in solutions prepared in laboratory and, subsequently, in industrial residues that contains this analyte. Different parameters related with the sorption of metals by dead biological materials will be examined, such as temperature, pH variation, ionic strength effect, concentration of the biosorbent and analyte etc. It is important to remark that this purpose is associated with the project Jovem Pesquisador "Studies of sorption by yeasts of metal and organic compounds for bioremediation of industrial residues", coordinated by Profa. Dra. Geórgia C. L. Araújo and supported by the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo, Proc. 07/53860-6.
