Abstract

Previous results from our laboratory have shown that the genes copA e copB from Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac) encode proteins involved in the copper resistance mechanism. Both genes are organized in an operon, whose transcription was specifically induced by copper. Analysis of the region upstream to the operon revealed the presence of the ORF XAC3629 (113bp of intergenic region), which codifies a 152 amino acid protein homologous to protein CopL from Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria (Xav). The nucleotide sequence of the gene copL from Xav was, recently, described as essential for the copAB transcription regulation. The main goal of this project is to perform a systematic analysis of the participation of the protein encoded by XAC3629 on the copper resistance mechanism in Xac.
