Abstract

The present work aims to develop the study of a reactor by sequential batch pilot scale, in order to optimize their performance in treating wastewater from a cattle slaughterhouse. In this project, the system performance will be monitored by means of physicochemical analysis in order to determine the variations on the following parameters: BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) and COD (chemical oxygen demand), dissolved oxygen, ammonia nitrogen, nitrate and nitrite, phosphate and a series of solids. To improve the quality of treated effluent and reduce the cycle time of the system, is expected to add coagulant agent in the reactor, to enhance floc formation and the separation of the solid phase of the waste. The treatment system used will be installed in the Laboratory of Wastewater Treatment, in Faculty of Science and Technology UNESP, Presidente Prudente campus. The study desenvolved in the project is very important to develop techniques aimed at improving the efficiency of biological treatment, combined with the verification of chemical usage, in order to shorten the sedimentation time of biological flocs. Expected to verify that the use of these in an industrial process used to slaughter cattle in slaughterhouses would result in removal of pollutants sufficient to dispose of it to receiving Waters, without significant change in the parameters of water quality indicators.
