Abstract

Transcriptions factors are DNA-binding proteins that regulate the transcription of genes through binding to regulatory sequences located upstream from the promoter region of genes. Due to their regulatory function, the identification and characterization of transcription factors are important for understanding determinant biological processes, as cell differentiation and apoptosis. The transcription factors data acquisition is not trivial since human transcription factors data are sparsely found in literature or in access paid databases. Thus, the construction of a freely accessible human transcription database would overcome these limitations. In this current project, we propose the construction of a freely accessible human transcription factors database containing the following data for each transcription factor: binding sites, regulated genes and references. This database will be made available for searching via a web interface.
