Dental surgeon and domestic violence: evaluation of professional knowledge in dentistry, at Guaratinguetá, SP

Abstract

The violence represents nowadays one of the most serious problems of the world, not being seen as a social matter anymore and becoming an issue of public health. The children, the elderly and women, for constituting the most vulnerable social groups, are the usual victims of the domestic violence. In this sense, the face's traumas, for being constant in the case of the domestic violence, impose to the dentist the diagnostic and taking to the pacient. The current study aims to assess the knowledge of the dentist about domestic violence, in Guaratinguetá city, São Paulo state, focusing the mentioned problem related to the children, women and elderly. The city where the research will take place has a total of 107.895 habitants, being located in the Vale do Paraíba region and has a wide health system that takes care of the local population and the population of the cities around. It will be interviewed, using a clear and straight questionaire, n=40 professionals of the public service and n=40 professionals of the private service of the city, selected with no criterion, from data supplied by the City Health Department, referred to the public sector, and by the Paulista Association of Dentists, referred to the private sector, using the descriptive statistical analysis for data processing.
