Abstract

This (sub) project of the - projeto temático: Organização colonial e padrões de reprodção em abelhas indígenas ( Processo 96/11093-2) -intends to perform experimental studies on behaviour of Melipona bees. The polygyny in M. bicolor opens possibilities to combine information from research with the invention of new techniques to improve breeding with this species. The effect of polygyny on colony development, its use in colony multiplication and the predisposition of Melipona workers for the performance of tasks in relation to age will be studied experimentally.
