Abstract

The field of Data Visualization has grown widely in the past years. However, many problems remain open to research, some of which are discussed in this research plan. Particularly, two main research fields are discussed here: 1) sonification; and 2) data models for integration of scientific visualization techniques. In the sonification field, the intent is to develop a configurable sonification internet client that matches the user's needs and hardware configuration, following the current development at ICMC of a distributed visualization and sonification prototype. In the data model field, our intent is to further develop a data model (also under development at ICMC) that will encompass the qualities of visualization techniques based on two different approaches: direct volume rendering and reconstruction.
