Abstract

The search for oil has led to unbelievable depths, springing new developments as well as breaking paradigms. The necessity to test new solutions implies in develop new tools for experimental research. The test tank is a very important multi disciplinary tool to research and teaching, mostly linked to Naval and Ocean Engineering. The major limitation to the tank is the reflected waves from the walls and from the absorbing structure. A new concept in test tank to overcome this difficulty has been studied by Naito and co-workers, installing active wave generator all around the tank, covering the walls and eliminating the absorber. Keeping reflections at a minimum the test tank resembles open water. This research Project proposes to study the new test tank concept in order to propose the application to the Department’s test tank. The study will focus the AMOEBA – Advanced Multiple Organize Experimental Basin, installed at NAOE-UOsaka, one of the firsts of a kind in the world. Also, it is planned to join this study to a Post Doctoral work, resuming Doctor thesis subject, and contributing to The Department’s main goals. (AU)
