Abstract

This research aims to analyze the universality of some geographical concepts, arguing about their power of description and explanation in different contexts. We are based on the premiss that any concept must have some universality in sort of they can be shared by the scientific community as important components of the theories.According to the perspective of the relation between territory organisation and his natural aspects, specialy the natural resources, this research will try to demonstrate that the description and explanation power of geographical concepts can vary according to different realities. This thesis is based on a general hypothesis that, due the variability and complexity of the facts that Geography work on trying to explain, some of its concepts should, in certain contexts, be adjusted or, at least, have their universality questioned, once they might carry the characteristicals of the reality where they were created. This research will be conduced, methodologicaly, under na hypotetical and deductive perspective, starting from general definition to arrive in eventual explanations of specific facts, based on the hypothesis of non-universality of the geographical concepts. This methodological proceeding will be conduced by na analitical comparation between brazilian and arab world contexts, under the light of the choosen concepts as geographical space, landscape, natural resource and place. According to the results, the conclusions should refer about the universality of those concepts and, consequently, about their scientiphic value as components of geographical theories that aim to explain the reality of the world.
