Abstract

It is proposed to examine the use of Neural Networks for damage and fault detection by implementing this analytical approach using embedded piezoceramic actuators, sensors and microprocessors. The goal is to research the possibility of developing intelligent structures which would have the ability to interrogate themselves to determine their structual integrity while in service. Such structures could then be used to reduce maintenance cycles and down time for evaluation. (AU)
