Abstract

Honey bee of the Genus apis constitute an important group of the apidae whose evolution, despite extensive phylogenetic study. Based on morphological and behavioral characters, remains a matter of controversy within the scientific literature. We propose an extensive investigation of this group using molecular systematic method including pcr-mediated amplification and sequencing of ribosomal dna and mitochondrial genes. This project will produce the first extensive set of comparative molecular data for the apidae and several out groups. (AU)
