he got the bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidade de São Paulo (1966), master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1968) and "Doktor-Ingenieur" in Mechanical Engineering Technische Universität München (1971). He is full emeritus professor at the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro since 1998. His academic career started at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1969-1974) and continued till 1998 at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), where he became full professor in 1978. He received the Alexander von Humboldt fellowship in 1982 and 1984 for an accademic leave in Germany. Other post-doc activities followed like in Franbce and Germany. He received the medal of the "Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico" in 2002 and was invited to the National Academy of Science (Brazil) in 2008. His area of expertise comprises Dynamics of the Rigid and Elastic Bodies, focusing mainly on following subjects: nonlinear dynamics,vibro-impact, drillstring, chaos and biomechanics.
