Simon Schwartzman

Graduated in Sociology and Political Science and Public Administration from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1961), Master in Sociology from the Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO) (1963) and doctorate in political science from the University of California Berkeley (1973). He is currently an associate researcher at the Institute of Economic Policy Studies (Casa das Garças) in Rio de Janeiro. He was President of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) (1994-1998). He has experience in the field of Political Science, with an emphasis on social policies, acting mainly on the following themes: comparative politics, higher education, science and technology, education, and sociology of science. He was a member of the National Council for the Evaluation of Higher Education (CONAES, 2017-2019).
