Graduated in MEDICINE from the Federal University of Pará (1986), he did his medical residency at the Department of Ophthalmology at Santa Casa de SP (1986) with Research Fellowship at the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California under the guidance of Dr. Richard L. Abbott (1994). Defended a PhD Thesis in Medicine-Health Sciences by the University of São Paulo (2002). He is currently a corneal surgeon and external diseases staff at the Sorocaba Ophthalmology Hospital, focusing on corneal transplants, cataract surgery and refractive surgeries. . He has experience in the field of Medicine, with emphasis on OPHTHALMOLOGY, working mainly in the following areas: reconstruction of the ocular surface, penetranting and lamellar corneal transplants, dry eye, ocular surface tumors, ocular burns, blindness prevention and visual rehabilitation and cornea.He is a scientific reviewer of the Brazilian Archives of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and Vision PanAmerica.He has been Secretary to the Portuguese Language of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology since 2007 and was re-elected until 2013. He is also a member of several PAAO Committees (Communication, Scholarships and Scholarships, Appointment).He is a member of the Guidelines Committtee of the International Council of Ophthalmology.Coordinates the Task Advisory Group (TAG) in Cornea and External Diseases in the elaboration of the new ICD-11 with the World Healt Organization (Switzerland).He coordinated the Scientific Program of the Joint Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology / Pan American Ophthalmology Association of 2009 in San Francisco, CA, USA.He presided the Center for Ophthalmological Studies Jacques Tupinambá of the Department of Ophthalmology of Santa Casa de SP until July 2008Elected Editor-in-Chief of Vision Pan-America, The Pan-American Journal of Ophthalmology, beginning its term in January 2012.In August 2014, he was appointed Member, Regional Advisory Committee of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (USA).He is the current President of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology based in Arlington, Texas, USA.
