He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from the Federal University of São Carlos (1987), a Master's Degree in Molecular Biophysics from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2000) and a PhD in Molecular Biophysics from the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2003). He was a PhD assistant professor at Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho. He retired in March 2020. He has experience in the area of Biophysics, with an emphasis on Molecular Biophysics, having worked mainly on the following topics: NMR, Crystallography and X-ray diffraction and Molecular Modeling of proteins and peptides. Pop1 is a CP-orthologous protein produced by the fungus C. populicola which causes canker on poplars. Pop1 belongs to the cerato-platanins family (CP).
