Renan Gianotto de Oliveira

Renan was born in Jales, a town in the countryside of São Paulo State, Brazil, where he learned to play the keyboard and guitar, always passionate about music. He graduated in Medicine from Universidade Anhembi Morumbi in 2013. Since his first year of medical school, he has been an instructor of Basic Life Support (BLS), and in his final year, he also completed the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) instructor course, both at the Heart Institute (InCor), University of São Paulo Medical School Hospital (HC-FMUSP).In 2015, he completed a research fellowship at the Sarver Heart Center, University of Arizona, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Karl Kern, continuing until the end of 2016. From 2017 to 2020, he completed his medical residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). During his residency, he developed a deep interest in Palliative Care, completing an elective rotation at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology (IPO) in Coimbra, Portugal. He then pursued a postgraduate program in Palliative Care at Instituto Pallium Latinoamerica from 2020 to 2021.In 2021, he fulfilled a long-standing dream by starting his PhD in Internal Medicine (with a focus on Health Professions Education) at UNICAMP, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dario Cecílio Fernandes. He serves as a reviewer for several journals, including Emergency Medicine Journal, Medical Teacher, BMC Medical Education, BMC Emergency Medicine, and Clinics. Renan is a member of the Brazilian Association for Medical Education (ABEM) and the Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE).He was a national medical expert for Laureate Brazil and an academic manager at Inspirali (Ânima Educação), where his last position was National Medical Manager in the Assessment Directorate. He was a faculty member at the Anhembi Morumbi Medical School from 2020 to 2024. Since late 2024, he has been teaching at São Leopoldo Mandic Medical School, where he works in the Emergency Medicine department and the Assessment Committee.Renan speaks fluent English and Spanish, has an intermediate level of French, and has recently begun learning Italian.
