First degree in Geology from Geosciences Institute of São Paulo University (IGUSP,1973), MSc. in Remote Sensing from Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE, 1976), and PhD. in Geology and Applications from IGUSP (1983). Post-doctoral researcher (1988-1989) and Visiting scientist (1996) at CCRS (Canada Centre for Remote Sensing) in Ottawa (Canada) with research related to the application of satellite SAR data in Geosciences, particularly in the Amazon region. Has experience in Geosciences, focusing on the application of SAR data in Geology and Cartography. Nowadays work with the evaluation of A-DInSAR (Advanced-Differential Interferometric SAR) techniques for the detection of ground deformation in open pit iron and manganese mines in Carajás Mineral Province (Pará State, Amazon region)) and particularly with the tailings dams in Mariana and Brumadinho (Minas Gerais), previously to the catastrophic ruptures ocurred in 2015 and 2019, using data from TerraSAR-X and Sentinel-1 satellites. Member of the São Paulo Academy of Sciences (2012), oficial collaborator as senior researcher at INPE after retirement in October, 2017, and currently with a research grant from CNPq as a senior researcher.
