Harumi Otaguro

She holds a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from the Federal University of São Carlos Department of Chemistry (1993), a Masters degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the Department of Materials Engineering (1997, Dema/UFSCar), and a PhD in Chemistry from the Federal University of São Carlos (2002). She worked as a collaborating researcher at the Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research (CNEN-IPEN-SP), where she completed her first postdoctoral fellowship (2006), and later returned to the Department of Materials Engineering for a second postdoctoral fellowship (2009). She served as a temporary professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (20112013), and as a tenured professor at the Institute of Chemistry, Federal University of Uberlândia (20132021). She is currently an Adjunct Professor (A2) at the Pontal do Paraná Campus Center for Marine Studies, affiliated with the Federal University of Paraná (CPP-CEM-UFPR). She is also accredited to the Postgraduate Program in Chemistry at UFU.Her research projects focus on the following themes:i) Evaluation of the correlations between structure, processing, properties, and performance of synthetic and natural polymers;ii) Development of nanocomposites for energy upconversion based on polymers from renewable sources;iii) Studies of post-reactor polymer modification methodologies for different applications;iv) Development of new materials such as sustainable packaging and membranes from natural and/or synthetic polymers;v) Development of polymeric systems for biomedical applications (hydrogels); andvi) Adhesive technology (polymersurface interactions).
