Gilliard Nardel Malheiros Silveira

He holds a degree in Systems Analysis from the State University of Bahia (2006), a degree in Electrical Industrial Engineering from the Federal Institute of Bahia (2007), and a master's and doctorate in Electrical Engineering from the State University of Campinas (2010 and 2014, respectively). From 2015 to 2016, he completed a postdoctoral internship in the optoelectronics group of Prof. Connie J. Chang-Hasnain, at the University of California at Berkeley. He worked as a PhD Professor MS-3.1 at the São Paulo State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) at the Aeronautical Engineering Course and the Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering Course at the São João da Boa Vista Campus (SP). From 2021 to 2022, he worked as a Visiting Professor at the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering at the Polytechnic School of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) on an Exclusive Dedication basis. In June 2022, he assumed the position of Professor Doctor I (level MS-3.1) at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (FEEC) of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), under the Regime of Dedication to Teaching and Research (RDIDP) with the Permanent Part of the Faculty. In February 2023, he was promoted by merit to the position of Professor Doctor II (level MS-3.2). He has been Head of the Department of Communications (DECOM/FEEC/UNICAMP) since 05/2025. He is a member of the following Technical-Scientific Societies: IEEE, OPTICA, SPIE and SBMO. In October 2021, he was elevated to IEEE Senior Member and has served as IEEE Counselor at UNICAMP since February 2023. Between 2022 and 2025, he served as Academic Editor with the editorial board of the journal International Journal of Optics (Wiley) and as Editorial Board Member of the journal Scientific Reports (Nature). Topics of research interest include: electromagnetic modeling of photonic and microwave devices, integrated photonics, microfabrication processes, and artificial intelligence.
