Abstract
Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL), also known as kala-azar, is a anthropozoonosis caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania that infect man and dog. VL is transmitted by the bite of female mosquitoes of the genus Phlebotomus and Lutzomyia species.
