Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Medicina (FM)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

Since 2009, she has served as a collaborating professor in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (FMUSP) and as a permanent advisor for its Postgraduate Program in Public Health. She graduated in 1987 from the Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM - UNIFESP), the same year as the National Constituent Assembly, which established the historic Health Chapter. During her medical residency in preventive medicine, she deepened her knowledge of Public Health. She managed the Unified Health System (SUS) in the city of São Paulo for 19 years, taking on various roles. At the Faculdade de Medicina do ABC, she served as the director of the Capuava School Health Center. She and contributed to the undergraduate medical program by coordinating and teaching the epidemiology course while supervising 20 undergraduate IC students over a period of 10 years. Her management experience has solidified her commitment to universality, integrity, and equity in healthcare, profoundly influencing her scientific perspective and the training of healthcare professionals. Her work focuses on addressing inequalities and inequities, emphasizing health as a fundamental right and understanding the social determinants that shape health policies. This focus has drawn attention to racial differences and the impact of racism on health outcomes. Consequently, she conducts quantitative studies to analyze social markers of difference, adopting an intersectional perspective that recognizes how various identities and social factorssuch as race, gender, and classaffect health experiences. This comprehensive approach facilitates a nuanced analysis of health inequities and the development of policies that consider the complexities of the health-disease-care process. As a result, her research occupies a unique intersection of public health subfields, merging the epidemiology of health services with the social and human sciences. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
