Maria Helena de Oliveira Sampa

MSc. and PhD in Nuclear Technology Applications from IPEN/University of São Paulo (USP). From 1976 to 2005 she was a researcher and head of the Research and Development Division of the Radiation Technology Center at IPEN/CTR where her main activities were managing and coordinating RD projects in application of ionizing radiation (electron beam accelerators and gamma radiation) in industrial and environmental processes. She has also been involved in the organization of Congresses, Seminars, Symposia and Meetings and has served as a Member of the Scientific Committee of national and international congresses. She worked at the IAEA International Atomic Energy Agency from 2006 to 2011 as a Technical Officer in Radiation Processing Technology in the Industrial Applications and Chemistry Section of the Department of Nuclear Applications (NA), Physical and Chemical Sciences Division. She was the first woman President of the Brazilian Nuclear Energy Association (ABEN) from 2000 to 2002 and was involved in professional societies such as the American Nuclear Society Latin American Section (ANS/LAS) and in the Technology-Based Business Incubator Center (CIETEC) and others. She has received awards in the nuclear area: in 2001 she received the "Carneiro Felipe" Medal from the National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) and in 2002 the "Friends of the Navy" Medal from the Brazilian Navy. In 2019 she received an Award as a scientific researcher from the IIA-International Irradiation Association (England) and the ATOMEXPO2019 Award, together with the IPEN-CTR group, participant of the Atomexpo International Forum in Russia. She has several national and international publications in the area, having given lectures in different forums and is a reviewer of articles for international magazines. She is also a consultant on radiation processing technology for industry, environmental preservation, decontamination of art objects and irradiation facilities for the IAEA, IPEN and CNEN.
