Graduated in Linguistics (Universidade Estadual de Campinas, UNICAMP, 1992), PhD in Linguistics (1998) and Associate Professor (2016) from UNICAMP. Professor in the Department of Linguistics at UNICAMP (1994-2023), he works in the Postgraduate Program in Linguistics at IEL-Unicamp. He works in the area of Indigenous Languages and Phonological Theory, particularly focusing on aspects of the Jê languages (especially Kaingang) and Macro-Jê, nasality in indigenous languages and their phonological systems. He also works in the area of school education, training indigenous teachers and indigenous language revitalization programs, with publications on school curriculum, language policy, bilingual education and other related issues. He coordinates linguistic revitalization actions and has published works on the topic. He worked exclusively as an indigenist for 10 years (1977-1987) in the South of Brazil and remains linked to practices and reflection on indigenous policy. He is also dedicated to research on the indigenous history of Southern Brazil, with several works published in this area. He leads the research group INDIOMAS-Knowledge of Indigenous Languages and Sign Languages in the University Society relationship, in which he coordinates the research lines "Languages of the Meridional Jê branch and their dialects" and "Phonology and spelling of indigenous languages". He created and coordinates the "Indigenous Web Project", aimed at the proactive digital inclusion of indigenous languages and communities. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
