Roberto Pecoits-Filho is a Distinguished Research Scientist and Scientific Director of the DOPPS Program at Arbor Research Collaborative for Health in Michigan, USA, and a full professor at the School of Medicine at the Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná (PUCPR). He graduated in Medicine in 1993 and completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Nephrology, finishing his nephrology training at the University of Missouri in 1997-98. He earned a Ph.D. in Nephrology from the School of Medicine at USP and completed a post-doctorate at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. In 2017, he was a Visiting Professor at the George Institute for Global Health in Sydney, Australia, supported by a senior internship scholarship from CAPES.From an academic and research management perspective, he coordinated the Nephrology discipline from 2005 to 2008 and the Nephrology internship from 2014 to 2016. He served as the director (2008 to 2016) of the Graduate Program in Health Sciences and was part of the management committee of the institutional PIBIC. He supervised 54 graduate students in the PUCPR Graduate Program, including 32 master's, 19 doctoral, and 3 post-doctoral students.Regarding past leadership roles, he was Vice-President of the Latin American Society of Nephrology and Hypertension and Scientific Director of the Brazilian Society of Nephrology. Additionally, he served as Vice-President of the Brazilian Society and President of the Paraná Society of Nephrology on two occasions. He chaired the scientific committee at two Brazilian Nephrology Congresses (2008 and 2014) and led two congresses of the Latin American Chapter of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis. He was also a counselor of the International Society of Nephrology and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and KDIGO, an international organization specializing in developing clinical guidelines. Currently, he is a member of the Executive Committee of SONG, an initiative for standardizing clinical outcomes in Nephrology.He was a Researcher (1A) of CNPq and a member of the Advisory Committee (CA) for Medicine at CNPq from 2013 to 2016. He is an active member of the editorial boards of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, Peritoneal Dialysis International, Hemodialysis International, and Blood Purification.Regarding scientific activities, he was the principal investigator in 17 international multicenter clinical studies and led 3 Brazilian multicenter clinical studies. He chairs the steering committee of the BRAZPD, HDFit, and CKDOPPS studies. Throughout his career, he has published over 400 articles in indexed international journals. In terms of production metrics, he has over 26,000 citations on Google Scholar, corresponding to an H-index of 80. He has been a speaker at various scientific events, including National and World Congresses in 43 countries.He has received the Maher Award (International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis for his scientific contribution to peritoneal dialysis), Education Ambassador (International Society of Nephrology for his work in nephrology training in African countries), and Young Nephrology Education Award (Global Kidney Academy for his global leadership in educational initiatives).
