Graduation and PhD in Natural Sciences by the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) Zürich, Switzerland. He is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Polytechnical School of the University of São Paulo. His research is in the field of environmental biotechnology, with emphasis on biofilms, focusing mainly on the following topics: fundamental aspects of the formation of microbial biofilms, biofouling of filter membranes (microfiltration and reverse osmosis), use of biofilms in bioremediation of contaminated areas, biofilms in hydroelectric plants (Biofouling and biocorrosion) and in basic sanitation (biofouling, bio-reactors and biofilms in potable water distribution networks) as well as in the recovery of tailings from the mining industry.
