Graduated in Natural History at Universidade Federal do Paraná (1962) and a Ph.D. in genetics, University of Hawaii (1966). Currently he is professor retired from the University of São Paulo. Has experience in the area of genetics, with an emphasis in Human and Medical Genetics, acting on the following topics: population genetics, familial aggregation, genetic epidemiology, malaria, leishmaniasis and viral hepatitis.
