Abstract
Project that provides for the fulfillment of the infrastructure demands of the main laboratories of the Institute, allowing researches to be carried out in the three main areas of knowledge, mainly the projects financed by FAPESP. (AU)
He has a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1993), a master's degree in Entomology from the University of São Paulo (1995) and a doctorate in Entomology from the University of São Paulo (2000) and post-doctorate from The Ohio State University (USA). He is currently a full professor at the Department of Biological Sciences at the São José do Rio Preto campus of UNESP-Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, where he teaches courses in the areas of Invertebrate Zoology, Entomology and Social Insects. He is a supervisor at the PPG in Biodiversity at IBILCE / UNESP. He has experience in the area of Zoology, with an emphasis on systematics and natural history of aculeate wasps, with an emphasis on Vespidae. He is part of the editorial board in the journals Cladistics and Sociobiology. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)

Microcomputed tomography is a technique for evaluating biological or non-biological materials using the physical principle of X-ray attenuation to form two- and three-dimensional images. As a result of the process, the images formed by this equipment result in the reconstruction and visualization of hundreds of cross sections. Evaluation using microCT equipment requires minimal preparatio…
Taxonomy is the branch of biology that names, describes, identifies and classifies living and extinct species and groups, which qualifies it as an important science that serves as the main basis for any policy aimed at avoiding the current biodiversity crisis. In contrast to the need for taxonomists, there has been a decline in the number of professionals and the availability of resources…

This project aims to carry out an inventory of wasps accumulated in fragments of areas of Atlantic Forest and Pampa, highly diverse and threatened Brazilian biomes, using collection active, Malaise trap and light trap. The material will later be sorted and catalogued.
This project aims to carry out an inventory of aculeate wasps in fragments of areas of Cerrado, the second largest biome in the country, and Caatinga, the only biome exclusively Brazilian. Active collection, Malaise traps and light traps will be used, and the material will subsequently be sorted and catalogued.
This project aims to carry out an inventory of aculeate wasps in fragments of areas in Pantanal, which brings together a great diversity of habitats, and the Amazon Forest, a biome that is home to immense biodiversity. Active collection, Malaise trap and light trap will be used, and the material will later be sorted and cataloged.

Parasitoid insects are specialized organisms that live inside or upon unique host, which is led to death due to the consequences of parasitoid actions. Despite it would be relatively easy to understand an evolutionary advantage for the parasitoid, it is harder to hypothesize the early and intermediary steps for the evolution of parasitoidism. One way to address this challenge is to seek f…
Aculeata, the stinging Hymenoptera, is a monophyletic group with an impressive richness of described species (~60,000) and a diversity of behaviors. While the phylogenetic relationships in a few groups of Aculeata are extremely well studied (bees, ants, social wasps), many of the relationships among its main inner groups are controversial. Vespoidea, one of three traditionally recognized …

Cuckoo wasps of the subfamily Amiseginae constitute a puzzling and species-rich group of aculeate parasitoid wasps. Their hosts include several groups of Phasmatodea (stick insects), whose eggs are consumed by the adult female and larvae. Despite recent advances, phylogenetic relationships among extant genera of Amiseginae remain largely unresolved. The main objective of this BEPE interns…
Thynninae is the most diverse subfamily of Tiphiidae (Hymenoptera, Aculeata) and is present in the Neotropical and Australasian regions. It is divided in four tribes, of which Scotaenini comprehend seven exclusively neotropical genera, but a recent cladistic analysis did not recover the monophyly of the group, as well as Scotaena Klug, the type-genus of Scotaenini. The species of Scotaena…
Vespidae comprises more than 5,000 described species among six subfamilies: Euparagiinae, Stenogastrinae, Masarinae, Eumeninae, Polistinae and Vespinae. The family is commonly known by the social species, variety of nest architecture and by being a study model for the evolution of the social behavior. However, the most diverse but less studied subfamily among vespidae is Eumeninae with mo…
