Birthplace: Brazil

I earned a B.Sc. in Physics and Chemistry from UNICAMP (IQ-UNICAMP) in 1988. During my undergraduate studies, I specialized in advanced Mathematics, including Banach and Hilbert Spaces, PDEs, Fourier and Laplace transforms, and advanced linear algebra, referencing works like Mathematical Physics (Butkov) and Mathematical Methods for Physicists (Arfken). Although I considered pursuing Mathematics, familial advice led me to Chemistry, where this foundation greatly influenced my scientific career. In 1992, I completed an M.Sc. in Physical Chemistry at UNICAMP, focusing on mathematical modeling and computational analysis. My Ph.D. (1995) was groundbreaking in Brazil, applying Neural Networks (NN) and Deep Neural Networks (DNN) to NIR Spectroscopy, establishing automated chemical analysis paradigms. Concurrently, I mastered programming in Fortran, C++, and Python, which I extensively applied in my research. From 1996 to 2009, I was a Full Professor at the University of Franca, teaching Computational Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Computational Methods, while leading projects that advanced NN/DNN applications in spectroscopy and chemical data. My postdoctoral work (1997, UNICAMP) expanded DNN to electrochemical signals. In 2011, I founded Drug Design Brazil, where I serve as CEO and Owner, driving innovations in computational drug design, applied ML, and advanced pharmaceutical technologies. In 2017, I completed an unpaid internship at MIT, focusing on ML and theoretical chemistry. From 2016 to 2019, I was a professor at the University of Mogi das Cruzes before becoming Manager of the Analytical Chemistry Division at Latino Pharma (Cristália). My key contributions include co-developing the generalized theory of 2D correlation spectroscopy (1998, with Prof. Isao Noda) and establishing ML/DL methodologies for chemistry in Brazil (1995, with Prof. Ronei Poppi). I have delivered invited lectures at Tsinghua University (Beijing), the University of Puerto Rico (ACS), and the University of Nottingham. A member of the ACS since 2012, I also co-founded the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics in the early 2000s. In 2018, I completed a Big Data and Data Science course (Python) at Erasmus University Rotterdam. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
