He holds a bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences (1990) and a Master's degree (1993) and a PhD (1997) in Biological Sciences (Genetics) by the Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho State University. He is currently a researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa Genetic Resources and Biotechnology). He acted as professor and adviser of the Postgraduate course in Biological Sciences of the Paulista State University Júlio de Mesquita Filho from 2007 to 2017 and as President of the Brazilian Society of Genetic Resources from 2012 to 2016. He has experience in Genetics, with emphasis on Genetics of Plants, working mainly in the following subjects: conservation and characterization of genetic resources, wild species, Arachis.
