Birthplace: Brazil

I am an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of São Paulo (USP). My research focuses on applied international macroeconomics, particularly exchange rate dynamics, using macro-finance and foreign exchange microstructure approaches. I obtained my PhD in Economics from the University of Kent (2005) and my MSc (2001) and BSc (1995) from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). I have been a faculty member at FEA-RP/USP since 2006 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2014. I have held visiting positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2012, Capes-Fulbright), Queens University Belfast (2013-2014, Fapesp), and the University of Warwick (2019, British Academy - Newton Fund). I also serve as a referee for several national and international academic journals. Beyond my research, I have worked as Director of the Graduate Program in Economics at FEA-RP/USP (2009-2012), Chair of the PAE Commission (2009-2011), Director of the Graduate Studies Committee (2016-2018), and Director of the International Relations Committee (2022-2024). I was also Editor of the Revista de Economia Aplicada (2006-2008) and led a research project funded by Fapesp under the Young Investigator program (2006-2010).More details can be found on my homepage: https://sites.google.com/usp.br/alexferreira/home (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
