CV Lattes

After graduating as a pharmacist (1966), I studied for a master's degree in pharmacology (1968) and later for a Ph.D. in the Department of Pharmaceutical Pharmacology, Faculty of Pharmacy at Uppsala University, which I defended in 1978 when Professor Lars Terenius was chairmen of the department. After several years as a scientist in two major pharmaceutical companies in Sweden, Pharmacia in Uppsala (12 years) and AstraZeneca in Lund (12 years), I am continuing to work with intravital microscopy and studies on plasma leakage in postcapillary venules as induced by parasites (Trypanosoma cruzi, Leishmania chagasi) and the salivary gland homogenates of the sandfly Lutzomyia longipalpis as well as the vasoactive peptide maxadilan isolated from its salivary glands. Since 2015, I have worked with a model of Trypanosoma cruzi infection of the hamster cheek pouch. In collaboration with Professor Pablo Blanco and his group at LNCC in Petropolis, we have developed a method for objective quantitation of T. cruzi-induced angiogenesis in the hamster, Bulant et al. (2017)which was used in the study published by Vellasco et al.(2022). (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
