He graduated in Dentistry by the School of Dentistry of the University of São Paulo (FOUSP) in 1983. He practised as a clinician, completed his Master's Degree in Dental Clinics in 1990 and his PhD in Dentistry in 1993, both at the University of São Paulo. He is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Biomaterials and Oral Biology of the School of Dentistry of the University of São Paulo.
