Economist (Padre Anchieta Teaching Association, 1971), Master's degree (1975), and Ph.D. in Economics (1982), IPE, FEAUSP. Professor at FEAUSP since 1973; Habilitation (Livre-Docente) since 1985; Full Professor since 1995. He served as the head of the Department of Economics, Associate Dean, and Dean of the School of Economics, Business, and Accounting at USP. Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Illinois (2012). Fulbright Visiting Professor, Ohio State University, 1994/94. He is a member of the External Advisory Board of the Lemann Center for Brazilian Studies at the University of Illinois. He has expertise in the field of Economics, with a focus on Regional Economics, working mainly on the following topics: regional inequality, income inequality, convergence, income distribution, and investment decisions. He is a member of the scientific council of the Regional Science Association International, a founding member and a member of the Council of ABER - Brazilian Association of Regional Studies, and the Regional Science Association of the Americas. He is a founding member and co-coordinator of NEREUS - Regional and Urban Economics Lab at USP. He is co-editor of the journal Regional Science Policy and Practice, and serves on the editorial boards of four international journals and six national journals. He is a reviewer for 20 international journals and 12 national journals. He is a researcher at INCLINE - Center for Research Support on Climate Change at USP, INCT Climate Change, with support from CNPq and Fapesp. He received the BNDES Economics Award in 1975 and the Werner Baer Award for Distinguished Public Service in 2018 (ANPEC, University of Illinois, and Lemann Foundation).
