Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). Campus São Paulo. Escola Paulista de Medicina (EPM) (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). Coordinator of the Neurophysiology Laboratory at UFPR. Accredited advisor and permanent member of the Graduate Program in Physiology (UFPR). Previously served as Deputy Coordinator (2018-2020) and Coordinator (2020-2022) of the same Graduate Program. Currently serves as Vice-Director of the Biological Sciences Sector at UFPR. Has been a Research Productivity Fellow of CNPq since 2013 and also acts as a reviewer for CNPq. Additionally, serves as a project evaluator for the Araucária Foundation (PR). Coordinated a series of institutional projects with CAPES and FINEP, as well as individual and group research projects within his areas of interest in neuroscience. He is an Associate Researcher of the National Network of Science for Education (Rede CpE). Teaches or has taught courses for Biomedicine, Biological Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, and Psychology programs. Has experience in the field of Neuroscience, with an emphasis on studies of the dopaminergic system using animal models of Parkinsons disease. Has increasingly focused on seeking translational research perspectives, developing studies also in patients with Parkinsons disease. Notable research lines include the neurophysiology of dopaminergic neurons and their role in regulating physiological functions such as the sleep-wake cycle and olfaction. Another important research line involves the prospecting of prodromal biomarkers for Parkinsons disease. Acts as a scientific disseminator through publications in widely circulated newspapers and magazines, with texts aimed at a broad audience. Also runs the YouTube channel "Neurociência Sem Neurose - NSN" (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3gVTh_ol-igLnzAxfauk9A), which serves as a far-reaching platform for publishing lessons and scientific outreach. Main areas of interest include: sleep regulation, neurotoxin-induced animal models of Parkinsons disease, sleep deprivation, olfactory system, prodromal markers, neurochemistry, and molecular biology of dopaminergic neurons.
