Bachelor in Music in University Sao Judas Tadeu (1987), Master in Music in University of São Paulo State Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2002), PhD in University of Campinas (UNICAMP 2005), and Post-Doctoral degree in University of California Riverside (2014). He teaches in the University of São Paulo (USP) since 2008, working with Music Theory. He coordinates the PAMVILLA a research group on Villa-Lobos's music. Paulo is the author of the books: Os quartetos de cordas de Villa-Lobos: forma e função (Edusp, 2018); Villa-Lobos: processos composicionais (ed. Unicamp, 2009) and Aberturas e impasses: a música no pós-modernismo e seus reflexos no Brasil - 1970-1980 (ed. Unesp). He is the developer and coordinator of Villa-Lobos Symposium in the University of Sao Paulo (https://sites.google.com/usp.br/simposiovilla-lobos/home). He translated to Portuguese the book Heitor Villa-Lobos, Life and Works by Eero Tarasti (Ed. Contracorrente, 2021).
