Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC). Centro de Ciências Naturais e Humanas (CCNH)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

He holds a Bachelor's degree (2004) and a Teaching degree (2005) in Biological Sciences, a PhD (2008), and a postdoctoral degree (2009) in General Physiology with an emphasis on Neurosciences - University of São Paulo (USP). He conducted part of his studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB, 2006), where he specialized in the cellular and molecular aspects of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly those related to the Tau protein (Tauopathies), such as Alzheimer's disease. Currently, he is a full Professor at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) and an Associate Researcher at the Neuroscience Research Institute (NRI) in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) at the University of California (UCSB). He coordinates the research group on Cellular and Molecular Biology of Neurodegenerative Diseases, is a member of the Graduate Program in Biosystems and the Interdisciplinary Center for Applied Neurosciences (NINA) at UFABC. His research group addresses four major thematic lines involved in neurodegeneration processes related to the degradation of toxic forms of the tau protein: 1) Cellular and molecular mechanisms, including intracellular pathways involved in proteasome-dependent protein degradation processes; 2) Mechanisms related to liquid-liquid phase separation in non-membranous organelles and their role in protein degradation; 3) Role of thermal dysregulation in processes involved with the formation/degradation of toxic forms of the tau protein in Alzheimer's disease; 4) Bioinformatics applied to Neurodegeneration, such as RNAseq and proteomics. The laboratory employs cellular and molecular biology techniques, including cell culture, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, qPCR, CRISPRi, cloning, and cell viability assays, among others. Additionally, the laboratory has extensive experience in animal behavior studies. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
