Lena Virgínia Soares Monteiro earned her Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1994 from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. She completed her Master of Science in Geosciences in 1997 and obtained her Ph.D. in 2002, both from the same university. Her master's and doctoral research focused on the metallogenetic evolution of non-sulfide and sulfide-rich zinc-(lead) deposits in the Vazante-Paracatu Belt, Brazil. She leads research groups in mineral systems and ore genesis, particularly related to IOCG and hydrothermal lead-zinc deposits hosted in carbonate rocks, utilizing multi-analytical approaches. Additionally, she conducts research projects on the hydrothermal evolution in atypical carbonate reservoirs. Dr. Monteiro is a Full Professor at the University of São Paulo, serving as the Head of the Department of Sedimentary and Environmental Geology, and also manages the GeoFluid Laboratory.
