Graduate in Economics, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS - 1974); master in Economics, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (ENCAMP - 1979); Ph.D. in Economics, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP - 1984), post-doctor University of London (1994-95). Full professor at the State University of Campinas, UNICAMP. Has experience in public sector economics, including social security. Since 2005, two major lines of research and publications: Brazilian economic thinking (José da Silva Lisboa, Celso Furtado) and late 17th, 18th and early 19th centuries monetary economics, including Locke, Cantillon, Hume, Galiani, Hume, Smith, and, especially, James Steuart. Within the last years, involved in the analysis of the first Portuguese-Brazilian edition of The Wealth of Nations (1811). From 2018, in connexion with the International Adam Smith Society (IASS), a reappraisal of the economics of Smith, involving issues such as money, capital (stock x capital), revenues, produce.
