Pessoa Física (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal) Birthplace: Brazil
He has a degree in Biochemical Pharmacy from the University of São Paulo (1999), a master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2003) and a doctorate in Biosciences applied to Pharmacy from the University of São Paulo (2006). He is the coordinator of the Functional Genetics Laboratory at UFMG and has experience in the functional characterization of metabolic pathways and the control of gene expression in human pathogens and/or infections. The focus of his research is the characterization of host-pathogen interactions in fungal and bacterial infections, such as: (i) characterizing different signaling pathways in human fungal pathogens such as Aspergillus fumigatus, (ii) evaluating immune and inflammatory responses during infection , (iii) evaluation of the effects of alcoholism during pulmonary infections, (iv) molecular mechanisms of regulation of gene expression by small non-coding RNAs involved in the control of the immune response in leprosy; (v) evaluation of genetic markers associated with leprosy and its clinical forms. Coordinates the Scientific Dissemination and Popularization of Science project "Science for You", which works extensively to combat misinformation on social networks. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
