Universidade de São Paulo (USP). Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto (FFCLRP)  (Institutional affiliation from the last research proposal)
Birthplace: Brazil

I completed my PhD in Biological Sciences (Zoology) at the University of São Paulo in 1998, under the supervision of Prof. Heraldo A. Britski. I am currently a Full Professor at the University of São Paulo, in Ribeirão Preto, where I joined as a professor in 2000. I have been an advisor for the Postgraduate Program in Comparative Biology at FFCLRP/USP for two decades. I have published 55 articles in specialized journals and 20 book chapters, having participated intellectually and in the writing of each of them. My academic interests, which are reflected in all my work, deal with phylogeny and comparative anatomy of living and fossil vertebrates and philosophical, theoretical, historical, and political aspects of science, especially taxonomy and phylogenetic systematics. I have supervised 21 students in 13 master's dissertations and 11 doctoral theses, many of whom are currently employed in the most renowned educational and research institutions in Brazil. All my efforts in the education of students are directed towards intellectual emancipation and humanization, made possible through the construction of solid ethics, respect for diversity and political awareness. I am a proud father of two children and a friend of a legion of good friends who have decided to be protagonists in the transformation of this country and the world into a fairer and happier place to live.
