Luis Felipe Labaki is a PhD candidate in the Media and Audiovisual Processes Program of the University of São Paulo, with Prof. Dr. Eduardo Victorio Morettin as his scientific advisor. His current research is titled "Notes of a kinok: the notebooks and diaries of Dziga Vertov" and is being financed by FAPESP. Between October 2023 and June 2024, he did a Research Internship in Paris (also financed by FAPESP) at the THALIM Unité Mixte de Recherche (CNRS - Sorbonne Nouvelle - ENS), supervised by Valérie Pozner. He has a bachelor's degree from the Curso Superior do Audiovisual of the School of Communications and Arts of the University of São Paulo (CTR-ECA-USP, 2013) and a Master's Degree in Media and Audiovisual Processes from the same university (2016), having presented the dissertation "Viértov no papel: um estudo sobre os escritos de Dziga Viértov" ('Vertov on paper: a study on the writings of Dziga Vertov') in 2016. He is the organized and translator of "Cine-olho: manifestos, projetos e outros escritos" (Editora 34, 2022), a collection of the writings of Soviet filmmaker Dziga Vertov. Besides his work as a Soviet cinema researcher and translator from the Russian language, Luis Felipe is a filmmaker, having directed the short films "O Pracinha de Odessa" ('The Private from Odessa', 2013), "Que tal a vida, camaradas?" ('How's life going, comrades?', 2017), "Um Guarda Real" ('A Royal Guard', 2019) and "A Maior Massa de Granito do Mundo" ('The Largest Mass of Granite in the World', 2020). He also acts as a film editor and soundtrack composer. In 2017, he co-curated the Soviet documentary retrospective "100: Back to the USSR", part of the 22nd edition of It's All True - International Documentary Film Festival. Since 2018, he is part of the festival's selection committee. In addition to "Cine-olho: manifestos, projetos e outros escritos", , he translated from Russian "Esqueci como se chama", a collection of short stories for children by Daniil Kharms (CosacNaify, 2015), and articles by Dziga Vertov, Artavazd Peleshian and Esfir Shub included in "A Verdade de Cada Um", an anthology of texts by documentary filmmakers organized by Amir Labaki (CosacNaify, 2015). For theatre, he wrote the plays "O Balneário" ('The beach resort', 2012) and "Os Fins do Sono" ('The Ends of Sleep', 2016), both staged by Francisco Turbiani, ahead of the Coletivo Cardume theatre group. In 2019, he translated from the Czech language Václav Havel's play Audience (1975), which was staged by Coletivo Cardume in November-December, directed by Juliana Valente and presented at SP Escola de Teatro. He was also responsible for the spectacles live soundtrack. Between 2011 and 2015, he collaborated with NME (Nova Música Eletroacústica), an experimental arts collective, having produced concerts in different cultural spaces of São Paulo and composed electroacoustic pieces and videos for the collective's projects. Between 2014 and 2015, he was a monthly columnist and ocasional editor for the electronic magazine "linda", focused on experimental art and music, created by NME.
