He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES, 1987), a Master's Degree in Physics from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP, 1991), a sandwich doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC, USA, 1992 to 1994), and PhD in Physics from the State University of Campinas (1995). He did postdoctoral studies at Johannes Gutenberg Universitaet (UNI-Mainz, Germany, 1996), and at the University of California at Berkeley / Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, (UCBerkeley / LBNL, USA, 1997). He is currently Full Professor at the Physics Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he coordinates the Electron Spectroscopy Laboratory (LEe-). Has experience in Physics, with an emphasis on Applied Surface Physics, acting mainly in the production and determination of the electronic and structural properties of nanostructured materials. His research involves the following topics: Electron Spectroscopy, Synchrotron Light, XPS / AES, EXAFS / XANES, nanoparticles, catalysis and biosensors. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
