Daniel S. Barroso holds a PhD. in Economic History from University of São Paulo (USP, Brazil) and is currently Assistant Professor of History (with tenure) at the Laboratory School (Escola de Aplicação) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA, Brazil). His doctoral research, granted by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP, Brazil, Grant #21188-5/2012), has focused on slavery in Grão-Pará (North Brazil), throughout the 19th century, through a serial analysis of two of the core elements of the economics and demography of African slavery the patterns of slaveholding and the slave family.
