Holds a Bachelors degree (2000) and a Licentiate degree (2001) in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO), a Masters degree in Zoology from the University of São Paulo (USP), and a Ph.D. in Zoology from the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He is a Full Professor in the Department of Zoology at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and Deputy Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Animal Biology at UFPE. He served as the coordinator of the same program from January 2018 to January 2022 and was Head of the Department of Zoology from August 2012 to January 2017.Since October 2022, he has been one of the editors of the World Porifera Database, and since 2017, a member of the Editorial Committee of the Taxonomic Catalog of the Fauna of Brazil, where he is responsible for coordinating the phylum Porifera (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/fauna). He also serves as the taxon coordinator for Porifera with both ICMBio and CPRH. His research focuses on Zoology, with an emphasis on the taxonomy and biogeography of recent animal groups, particularly Porifera. (Source: Lattes Curriculum)
